Editing tasks
A task starts as a line of text and grows only as much as it needs to. You can change a title in place or open the full editor for everything else.
Inline editing (macOS)
Section titled “Inline editing (macOS)”Click a task’s title to edit it right where it sits. The cursor lands where you
clicked. Press ⏎, ⇥, or an arrow key to confirm; press ⎋ to
cancel and revert. Editing also confirms automatically if you switch away, for
example by changing sections or opening another task.
Inline editing is plain text only: it does not run smart parsing,
so typing #Website in an inline edit keeps it as literal text rather than
reassigning the project.
The detail modal
Section titled “The detail modal”Press ⏎ on a selected task, or double-click it, to open the detail view.
This is the full editor, with:
- Title (required)
- Description (optional, supports Markdown)
- Project
- Deadline
- Recurrence
It also shows the task’s history. On iPhone and iPad the same editor opens as a sheet.
What you can edit where
Section titled “What you can edit where”Everything except the title lives in the detail modal. The title can be changed either inline or in the modal. Archived tasks open in a read-only version of the detail view, so you can look back without changing the record.
